If your going to visit the Houmas House Plantations while vacationing around and about New OrleansLouisiana, I highly recommend that you plan on either lunch and/or dinner at the Cabin.
From my perspective, the Cabin is a good example of traditional Cajun cooking . . .
That would be LA as in Louisiana (not Los Angeles, for those of you out on the left coast.)
Actually the Cabin restaurant is in Burnside Louisiana and it’s address is not readily published but it’s within a stones throw of Hwy 22 & Hwy 44 (according to their web site http://www.thecabinrestaurant.com/)
Another way to find it is to get to the Houmas House Plantation because the Cabin Restaurant are actually the remnants of the Houmas House slave quarters. (Yes Virginia, there really was slavery in America a long long time ago.)
At any rate if your going to visit the Houmas House Plantations while vacationing around and about New OrleansLouisiana, I highly recommend that you plan on either lunch and/or dinner at the Cabin.
From my perspective, the Cabin is a good example of traditional Cajun cooking, with enough variety to please just about everyone. By the way, there’s a good reason that their Catfish is on the top of the menu. If you want to find out what a good fried catfish is supposed to taste like, the Cabin is a great place to find out.
Personally, I have a soft spot for Po-Boys, which is basically a good plate dinner served on crisped French bread. It’s usually a mess to eat but very tasty.

You will also note on the menu the highlighted presence of their “Buttermilk Pie” which is touted as a ‘Legend in its time.’ And for good reason. This pie is wonderful. It’s a very subtle cream pie with a caramelized top served in a light crumbly pie crust. Be sure to leave room for this desert!
I haven’t had everything on the menu, but the food is wonderful and won’t break your bank, being priced very reasonably.
The Houmas House is an interesting tour for a couple of hours, but The Cabin restaurant will make the whole trip very well worth while. I’d recommend them for lunch AND dinner.
