Mark Caliber's Reviews
articles.jpg Welcome to Mark Caliber's reviews.

In short, this is where I get to express my opinion on whatever I want to, because, Delcar gave me an admit account and free reign to say pretty much whatever I want to.

As a matter of course I'm going to begin my limiting myself to three topic right now; Movies, TV shows, and restaurants.

As far as movies go, I'll begin by focusing on these as time and finances permit and reviewing them from the humble perspective of an aspiring film producer.

Ditto for the TV shows.  Mind you I don't spend a lot of time on either Movies or TV but what I tend to watch is important enough to me that I'll pass on my opinion.

Restaurant reviews are probably going to be limited to mostly Chineese and Asian restaurants as I tend to only frequent chain restaurants.  Asian restaurants are an exception because no two are alike.  This is because to be a successful cook at an Asian restaurant, you have to have been raised as a Asian and you'll cook like your mom taught you t cook.  Which will be like no one else in the world.

As a bit of warning, please also keep in mind that I don't mind eating MRE's so my pallet isn't all that picky.

Now, I've devised my own unique rating scale and after using it a bit, I thought I ought to explain it a bit more.

First, my scale goes from 1 to 7 with 1 being . . . bad.  If I say it's a 1 then don't say I didn't warn you!

A 2 on my scale means that it's got SOME redeaming value SOMEWHERE.  Or maybe I just had pity on the whole project.

3 is below average, but if you like that sort of thing, it might gel with you.

4 is average.  Being that most of the stuff I'm commenting on is being done by professionals, then getting a 4 is what most people can expect to achieve.  I tend to have little time to waste and so I'm not going to bother with anything that's "Average."

5 obviously means that you're getting some things right and I'm even inclined to watch the show from time to time.

6 is good.  Really, really, good.  If it's a 6 check it out.

7 is "24" good.  These are shows that rip you out of your living room, tear you off of your couch and immerse you into the show.  These are the shows that if your parents/kids happen to die a horrible death, the cops had better have the decency to at least wait till after the show ends before notifying me as next of kin.

So there' s my inconsistently subjective rating scale.

This is just a miscellaneous catch all for stuff that just wont fit else where.  Basically my Op-Ed section.
  • Restaurant Reviews  ( 4 items )
Restaurant reviewing is going to posess some interesting challenges for me because I consider myself a good cook.

Indeed, I really don't spend a lot of time out in restaurants because, I can ussually do a much better job cooking ANY meal than what you'll find in any given restaurant.

The exception is going to be the Asian cuisine.  Being a good only American kid who grew up in the midwest, from a Norwegian immigrant mother, she didn't know a lick about cooking Asian food.

Still, I picked up a love for eating food with chopsticks (I actually find that I can't eat Asian food without chopsticks.  It's on the same level of "wrong" as it would be to try to eat fried chicken with a fork and knife.  [Now I know that there's probably someone out there who eats their fried chicken with a fork and knife {like say the Queen Mum over the pond} who absolutely MUST eat fried chicken with a fork and knife, and I don't intend to give offense, but if you're really going to be successful in eating a fried chicken, you're going to need to use your fingers.])

And here's my TV Review section.  These are the shows that I enjoy enough to carve out precious time to watch.

Again, my focus on this is going to lean heavily on concepts related to production values.

Okay everybody, QUIET ON THE SET!

Alright, AD, are we ready?  Camera's good?  Sound's ready?  F/X?

    Great.

    Actors?  Are you ready?

    Good.

Now this is going to be a money shot, people.  This is one of those scenes that the audience is going to walk out of the theater remembering.  They're going to talk about these next couple of moments with great fondness.

    Okay AD  Cue production.

    Roll Sound.

    Speed!

    Roll Camera.

    Rolling . . .

    Action!
