The dreaded GMPCs: Delcar, Neltara and Turgor.

GMPCs: Used lightly they’re a tool for the GM to join the group socially as a peer. Typically though, they’re just there to feed the ego.

I was going to start by saying ‘Used correctly, they’re an important mouthpiece for the GM as storyteller.’ but then they’re not GMPCs, they’re NPCs.

Delcar - Drow mage rolled up back in I think 1983, he’s now the count. So he gets to be all merliny and king Arthur…ly all at once.

Neltara - Tallfellow hafling [oh the irony. Now she’s generic halfling - seperate rant HERE] now married to Delcar. She was my munchkinesque abuse of the then brand-new double specialization rules in the Unearthed Arcana, which makes her circa 1985. Fighter/Thief, obviously.

Turgor the Bold - Originally my generic fighter, he’s the oldest of the three characters in terms of creation date; he was also the outlet for my bulls**t adolescent fantasies. Now that I’m older, (what? wiser? what are you talking about? Stop interupting.) I haven’t retconned any of that, so he gets to deal with the consequences of the past. Back in the day he was a Chaotic Neutral fighter with 18/52 strength, and my fondest memories were of the time he screwed over the Awful Good party (Lawful my ass) that shoehorned me into bringing him to the first Ravenloft adventure. [I told them they really didn’t want to take him. Short version: tied up priest and pally, stole holy weapons and such, got let go by Strahd in exchange.]
